How to Build with Post & Beam

Frames

Our frames are cut from Eastern White Pine and Hemlock, and use traditional handcrafted joinery systems, such as mortise and tenon and dovetails that provide long lasting strength and durability. Ideally you will select one of our existing plans and we will be able to get started on your frame with a 10% deposit.

Panels

With the frame design chosen, we will complete a panel layout drawing, establish a contract cost, and arrange for installation if desired. Local contractors can easily install the roof and wall panels with the instruction package provided.

On Your Site

The foundation and deck

From the plans provided by Willow Creek, your general contractor will oversee the construction of the foundation and deck. These components of the house will be identical to a conventionally framed house with the exception of solid blocking under post locations.

Assembling the frame

Our crew will assemble the frame in less than a week ensuring that the structure is square and true. All joinery is pegged with hardwood dowels. A hydraulic lift or crane may be necessary for higher structures.

Enclosing the frame

The frame can be “closed in” using a variety of methods but structural insulated panels (SIPs) are cost effective and create a very tight and energy efficient home.

The exterior of your home

The door and window openings are cut on site by your general contractor. The roofing material and exterior siding, stucco or stone will also be the responsibility of your general contractor.

The interior of your Post and Beam home

The post and beam structure needs no additional bearing walls on the interior and as a result, partition walls can be placed anywhere inside the home. The post and beam structure is ideal for an open concept layout.
